 David Gish


 It is with great sadness that I announce the passing our NATA District VI President, David Gish.  David "fought like hell" just like he promised, but lost his battle with cancer overnight.  David served his athletes, his students, and his members with professionalism, integrity, and character, and he will be severly missed.  Though David's tenure as President was very short, his impact and legacy to his colleagues, student, Board, and members was tremendous.  He gave us the greatest gift of all, his time. 

A celebration of David's life will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Embassy Suites in San Marcos, Texas.

The event was sponsored by the NATA Foundation, and the represented schools included: Baylor University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, University of Arkansas, University of Houston, and University of Texas at Austin. The guests shared memories of what life as an athletic trainer was like through the years — some humorous, some touching, all unique.

The purpose of the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association (SWATA) shall be to enhance the quality of health care for the physically active; to promote and advance the profession of the athletic training profession; to promote a better working relationship among those who work toward the care and prevention of athletic injuries; enhance the health care of persons served by the Membership; safeguard and advance the membership; and to promote the free exchange of ideas and information within the Association. Promote, safeguard, and advance the profession of Athletic Training and its members.
