The Bobby Gunn Student Leadership Award was established to recognize one of the true pioneers in athletic training -- and to give deserving students assistance in attending NATA’s Annual Meeting.

Bobby Gunn was NATA’s first president and an invaluable leader for the athletic training profession. He passed away in March 2007.   For more information on Bobby Gunn, see the April 2007 edition of the NATA News, available online at www.nata.org in the members‐only section.

To be eligible for the Award, you must be an undergraduate or entry-level master’s student who is a member of the NATA and have never attended the annual meeting before.  The NATA will waive the winner’s convention registration fee, and District VI will provide a travel stipend for the meeting.  Award recipients will be recognized at the annual meeting during the Pinky Newell Scholarship & Student Leadership Breakfast.

Want to own a piece of SWATA History?

SWATA Members can purchas copies of the Southwest Conference Athletic Trainers' "Night of Memories" DVD.

On July 17, 2014 more than a dozen athletic trainers from the former Southwest Conference took the stage to reminisce and share favorite stories.

The event was sponsored by the NATA Foundation, and the represented schools included: Baylor University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, University of Arkansas, University of Houston, and University of Texas at Austin. The guests shared memories of what life as an athletic trainer was like through the years — some humorous, some touching, all unique.
