Lucio Bill would Require Cognitive Clearance after Sports Concussions |
December 7th, 2012 03:10:18 pm |
This article explatins how Texas State Rep. Eddie Lucio III is renewing efforts to improve safeguards for head injuries in high school sports. During the 2011 legislative session, the Brownsville Democrat helped pass requirements for replacement and reconditioning of high school football helmets. But separate legislation that would have mandated baseline cognitive tests before participation in athletic activities failed to pass out of the state Senate. Lucio is hoping that added awareness of the problem will attract more support for the mandatory tests in the next legislative session that will be held in 2013.
