David Traylor began his service to the membership of SWATA in 2000 as a member of the Secondary Schools Athletic Training Committee. In 2004 he joined the Program Committee of which he was appointed as Chair in 2005. He served as Chair for 3 years before being elected to the SWATA Executive Board in 2009 and served as SWATA President from 2010 – 2011. Following his service on the SWATA Executive Board, he was part of the SWATA Finance Committee from 2013 -2015 and was appointed as the Co-Chair of the Convention Committee in 2014. He also served the membership of the North Texas Athletic Trainers Society as Secretary from 2003-2008 and as the organization’s President from 2008-2010.
David began his athletic training education at SMU prior to transferring to Texas Tech for the last three years of his undergraduate experience. At Texas Tech, he worked with multiple sports programs, as well as many tremendous athletic trainers, coaches, and athletes. David obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Texas Tech in 1998.
Upon graduation, David went to Baylor University as a graduate assistant athletic trainer where he worked primarily with the Lady Bears Women’s Soccer program and Track and Field teams. He obtained a Master’s degree in Education from Baylor in 2000. Following graduation, he was led back to the North Texas region where he worked in several high schools prior to finding a home in the Keller Independent School District where he was fortunate to open two new high schools in his tenure, Central High School and Timber Creek High School. Following a four-year stint working with outstanding physicians and sports medicine professionals at Texas Health Sports Medicine, David returned to Keller ISD in 2019 as an athletic trainer at Keller High School. During his time in Keller, David has worked to implement numerous safety guidelines, concussion protocols and other policies aimed at protecting the student athletes that he serves.
In 2010, David was awarded the James Dodson New Horizon Award by SWATA recognizing him for his work within the organization as a young professional. In 2019, he was awarded the NATA Athletic Trainer Service Award for his service to the District, as well as the SWATA Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer for his service to the organization. In 2022 he was awarded the Bobby Gunn Unsung Hero Award.
David and his wife Kimberly were married in 2001 and they have two amazing kids, Kylie and Kody.
