Doin Dahlke was born in Fort Riley, KS and moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas when he was two years old. He graduated from Mountain Home High School and attended college at Arkansas Tech University. As Arkansas Tech did not have an Athletic Trainer, Doin was unaware of the profession until He was put in touch with Paul Zeek who told him all he needed to do to become an Athletic Trainer. Doin went on to graduate from Arkansas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Biology in 1987. Following graduation, he went to the University of Arkansas and worked under Dean Weber and David England and worked with Football, Baseball and Track. This is where Doin learned about giving back to the profession and becoming involved as Dean and Dave were instrumental in founding the AATA and Dean was on multiple NATA committees. Doin passed his BOC in February of 1988 and was hired back at Arkansas Tech University as their first certified Athletic Trainer in June of 1988.
While at Arkansas Tech, Doin was in charge of all sports and the health care of over 250 athletes. He started the Athletic Training curriculum and taught in the Physical Education Department. Numerous students who went through the Athletic Training curriculum went on to pass their BOC or Texas Licensure and have had productive careers in the field of Athletic Training. During this time, Doin began volunteering with the AATA, SWATA and the NATA as well as becoming a member of the NAIA Medical Committee.
Doin left Arkansas Tech in 1993 and began working at Parker Orthopedic and Sports Medicine as the director of Athletic Training/Physical Therapy while also doing outreach and special events. After the death of Dr. Parker in 1995, he moved to Cooper Clinic where he and two other Athletic Trainers started the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training Department. Doin covered Eastern Oklahoma State University and Sallisaw High School.
In 2002 Dahlke left Cooper Clinic and he and a partner started DWD Testing, Inc./Functional Testing Centers, Inc. covering five states doing functional capacity evaluations for Workman’s Compensation, Long Term Disability and Social Security Analysis. They grew that business to eventually hire five other Athletic Trainers performing over 125 FCE’s per month. In 2004 he also began working for Alert Services, Inc selling within the states of Arkansas, Missouri and north Louisiana. In 2006 he began selling bracing and supports for DonJoy, Inc. as well as managing a team of five sales associates. He and his partner in the FCE business also opened three physical therapy clinics during this time and Doin was in charge of managing the financial aspects of those clinics until they were sold.
In 2019 Dahlke left all that behind and went to work for Henry Schein, Inc. Athletic and School Division where he is currently the regional sales manager for North Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Mississippi and Alabama. He says this is the best job he has ever had as he is able to travel, meet and help his fellow Athletic Trainers receive what they need on a daily basis. He was Salesman of the Year in 2021 and in 2023 he was given the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association District 9 Sponsors Award as well as the Alabama Athletic Trainers Association Sponsors Award.
Doin’s list of service to the profession is extensive. He was the President-Elect, President and Past President of the Arkansas Athletic Trainers Association. He was on the AATA board for a total of fourteen years and the SWATA board for a total of eight years as the Arkansas Representative. He was a NATABOC test site administrator for nine years and test examiner/room captain for the seven years previous. He was on the SWATA CEPAT, Honors and Awards and Scholarship Committee. He was the Placement Co-Coordinator for the NATA meeting when it was in Dallas.
